About

Lauren Tsuchida is a German Japanese visual artist based in Chicago who is currently attending the School of the Art Institute of Chicago for her Bachelor’s in Fine Arts in Studio. Through her high-contrast illustrations, she investigates otherization, identity, and perception through a multicultural lens, blending abstract narratives with seemingly disconnected representational images. With the interpretive and intuitive nature of her art, Tsuchida explores and pushes back on her own unconscious biases and socialization, aiming to break free from misogynistic and oriental projections and constructs. She utilizes metaphors and references history and theory from Visual Critical Studies in her social commentary.
